Service detail

All patients admitted to The Walton Centre following major trauma are assessed by the Trauma Therapy Team.

The Walton Centre Trauma Therapy team includes two Trauma Therapy Co-ordinators, one Physiotherapist and one Occupational Therapist.

Admitted with trauma

All patients admitted with trauma are required to have a Rehabilitation Prescription completed. The Rehabilitation Prescription forms a major part of best practice. The document, which requires input from the whole multidisciplinary team (MDT), identifies a trauma patient’s acute rehabilitation needs and indicates ongoing, longer term rehabilitation requirements. The therapy team will also assess, treat and assist with the co-ordination of care of all trauma inpatients as required.

Trauma Therapy Team

The Trauma Therapy Team work closely with both the inpatient physiotherapy/occupational therapy team and the neuro-trauma MDT.

The Therapy Trauma Team are involved in the weekly MDT meeting in which all patients with head and/or spinal trauma are reviewed. The team also works in collaboration with Aintree University Hospital’s trauma team.
