About Nasir Mirza

Dr Nasir Mirza is a Consultant Neurologist at The Walton Centre specialising in epilepsy.

He did his BSc in neuroscience and undergraduate medical training at King’s College London. His post-graduate training was in Guy’s and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College in London, and The Royal Liverpool University Hospital and The Walton Centre in Liverpool. He did a PhD in the genomics of drug resistant epilepsy at the University of Liverpool.

Dr Mirza has been active in epilepsy research, and has numerous publications in prestigious academic journals, such as Nature Genetics (GWAS meta-analysis of over 29,000 people with epilepsy identifies 26 risk loci and subtype-specific genetic architecture | Nature Genetics). He has led drug repurposing research for the international research consortium on complex epilepsies.

He has won numerous awards during his career, such as the MRC Centenary Award, and the Uschi Tschabitscher Prize for Young Neurologist from the European Neurological Society and the European Federation of Neurological Societies.

Dr Mirza is a Consultant Neurologist, managing a wide range of neurological problems and conditions, with a sub-specialist interest in epilepsy. He does an adolescent epilepsy clinic, in which he sees patients referred from across the region, with often severe genetic epilepsies. He also does a general neurology clinic and ward consults at Southport and Formby District General Hospital.
